You Am I beer: For that hourly, daily thirst

Need a drink you can enjoy anytime – hourly, daily? Following hot on the heels of Hanson’s MMMhops, comes Brew Am I, the official beer of one of Australia’s great rock bands You Am I.

Ahead of an official announcement next week, the band are testing the waters with pre-orders via the Brew Am I website. The beer was developed by Sydney craft brewery Young Henry’s after “months in the thinking, tasting and brewing”. It coincides with 20th anniversary of the band’s 1993 debut Sound As Ever, which is being reissues along with Hi Fi Way (1995) and Hourly Daily (1996) on June 7.

Young Henry’s founder Richard Adamson says: “Capturing the spirit of You Am I in a bottle is a challenge, but one we feel equal to. Brew Am I is a new world pale ale clocking in at five percent, made with ingredients sourced from parts of the world that each band member calls home; rolled wheat from Tim and Russell’s western state, Davey’s Victorian malt, and Andy’s Kiwi hops all combine to make the perfect accompaniment to the band’s music. Music that has inspired the brewers for many years.”

You Am I will embark on a national tour, playing Hourly Daily and Hi Fi Way back-to-back in full, in June. Dates below. Speaking to FL last year as part of our “In The Firing Line” series, frontman Tim Rogers said that despite making some great records in the ‘90s, he feels no nostalgia for that decade, “Why the fuck would I?” he declared. “I was there, I did that. I’m far more excited about anything currently, I’m enjoying more, I’ve read more, I’ve seen more. No nostalgia at all. I don’t think back on it anything less than fondly, but I’m so much happier at 42 than I was at 26.”
