Weezer for Soundwave Revolution, kinda

It’s official – Soundwave Revolution will feature one hour of Weezer this year, just don’t expect Rivers Cuomo to be a part of it.

In a tweet earlier this morning Festival promoter AJ Maddah announced what we can only guess is a Weezer cover band (or perhaps one of the other previously confirmed bands playing Weezer hits) on the Revolution line-up: “Bad news: I’ve now given up on @riverscuomo ever coming back to Aus. Good News: We’re still going to have an hour of Weezer #swREVOLUTION.

Maddah also announced that the much anticipated second line-up announcement will be arriving on August 1st. While there have been plenty of bands rumoured to be included on the next announcement, the only one that is looking like a sure thing is glam metal band Steelheart who posted a link to the Soundwave Revolution line-up on their Facebook wall last month.

And just to get the rumour mill started for Soundwave 2012, it looks likely that Maddah has booked two of Sonisphere’s headline bands to visit Australia. Maddah has spent the last week at the festival, presumably checking out potential bands for next year’s Soundwave, and when asked by twitter user tateW ” did it all come together?”, Maddah responded, ” 2 out of the 3 big ones did.” Headline acts on the Sonisphere line-up include Metallica, Biffy Clyro, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Megadeth, Anthrax, Opeth and, of course, Weezer. We’ll leave any further speculating up to you.
