Watch this incredible acoustic cover of Violent Soho’s ‘Covered In Chrome’
The 17-year-old musician, now based in Brisbane, has given the centrepiece of Hungry Ghost a finger-picked folksy makeover, and it’s worth it just to hear her sing the “yeah yeah yeah yeah yeahs” in impossibly high falsetto. “It’s a little different to the original but I hope you like it,” says Sahara, who released her debut EP You Could Be Happy last year. The clip has only had about 250 views since being posted last night, but expect those numbers to dramatically rise.
‘Covered In Chrome’ is the second single lifted from last year’s Hungry Ghost. The track, which came in at #14 in January’s Hottest 100, was inspired by the Hungarian uprising in 1956, as singer Luke Boerdam told us in a track-by-track rundown of the album. “The song is about the power that can be wielded from ideas, and contrasting that with a guy asking for a ‘simple life’ while unravelling the human vacuum he finds himself in,” he explained. “He’s turning around and asking ‘What the fuck happened?’”
Earlier this morning, Violent Soho announced a joint national tour with Melbourne’s Smith Street Band. Click here for the dates.
