Watch: The trailer for Jeff Buckley movie ‘Greetings From Tim Buckley’

The trailer for the Jeff Buckley biopic Greetings From Tim Buckley has been released giving us the first real look at Gossip Girl’s ‘Lonely Boy’ Penn Badgley as Jeff. Badgley reportably beat sullen vampire Robert Pattinson and modern day renaissance man James Franco for the lead role.

Greetings from Tim Buckley centres on the days leading up to Jeff Buckley’s performance at a tribute concert for his father in 1991. According to the press release for the film, Buckley junior romances a a young woman working at the concert and learns to “embrace all of his feelings toward the father who abandoned him – longing, anger, forgiveness, and love … culminating a cathartic performance of his father’s most famous songs.”

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival with Toronto’s The Globe and Mail reviewing the film as a “must-see”. The review claims that the film “expertly weaves its contrapuntal narrative between the late ‘60s and early ‘90s, celebrating both the music and the process by which great music is made” and praises the “real chemistry” in the casting especially between Badgley and his romantic interest Imogen Poots.

In addition to Badgley and Poots the cast also features relative newcomer Ben Rosenfield as Tim Buckley and British singer/songwriter Kate Nash and Anthrax’s Frank Bello as Richard Hell.
