Warped Tour won’t be returning to Australia in 2014

It’s official: The Warped Tour won’t be returning to Australia in 2014.

Early last month AJ Maddah had revealed that the festival was “”unlikely to return but he has now confirmed that the event will only be staged in America this year. Festival founder Kevin Lyman has not commented on the Australian tour, but told fans in the UK that he “could not get the line-up together that I think you would expect and did not want to force it.”

The 2013 Warped Tour was the first time the festival had been staged in Australia since 2002, but due to poor ticket sales Maddah revealed earlier this year that the event wouldn’t be returning to Coffs Harbour or Canberra. He described the “attendance in Canberra as “very poor””:http://www.fasterlouder.com.au/news/38433/No-Warped-Tour-for-Canberra-in-2014 and revealed that only 1800 punters attended the event in Coffs. In addition to Canberra and Coffs Harbour, the 2013 Warped Tour was also staged in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.

8 THINGS WE LEARNT FROM THE SYDNEY WARPED TOUR

The Warped Tour visited Australia for the first time in 1998 with a lineup that included Pennywise, Frenzal Rhomb, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and Blink 182 hitting nine east coast dates – the Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour, Sydney, Ulladulla, Newcastle, Adelaide, Melbourne and Geelong. The festival returned in 1999 and 2002. Offspring headlined the 2013 event.
