Vyvyan from The Young Ones is coming to Australia to play folk covers of punk songs, yes really!

Want to see Eddie Hitler or Vyvyan Basterd sing folk cover versions of Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Stranglers, The Jam, The Undertones, The Ramones, The Buzzcocks, The Specials, Talking Heads, and Kraftwerk songs? Of course you bloody do!

Adrian Edmondson might be best known for his head kicking roles on The Young Ones and Bottom but next year he’s bringing his mandolin to Australia for a tour with his band The Bad Shepherds. Bringing a Celtic reel and jig to punk and New Wave hits, The Bad Shepherds have released two albums – 2009’s Yan Tyan Tethera Methera! and By Hook or By Crook in 2010.

Edmondson will be joined on tour by bandmates Andy Dinan – the two time winner of the all-Ireland Fiddle Championship – and Troy Donockley on uilleann pipes, cittern, whistles, and vocals.

The news comes hot on the heels of the announcement of a pair of shows from fellow actor/folk singer John C Reilly. No doubt a Billy Bob Thornton tour will be announced before the week is over.

The Bad Shepherds have announced shows in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney and – according to their official website – details of a Perth show will be announced soon.
