Voting opens for the 2014 triple j Hottest 100

Voting for the triple j’s Hottest 100 – aka the “world’s biggest music democracy” – has officially opened.

That’s right, you can now play your part in ensuring that Lorde’s ‘Royals’ or Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ romps it in when the votes are revealed on Australia Day (January 26). Simply select up to 10 of your favourite songs of 2013 from the voting list – just make sure you do it all in one sitting. Voting opens from today until midday on January 20.

As an incentive to cast your vote, triple j are giving voters the chance to win a double pass to every triple j-presented festival and gig in 2014, including Laneway Festival, Splendour In The Grass, Groovin The Moo, Falls Festival, The National, Phoenix and Arctic Monkeys. WHY WE STILL CARE ABOUT THE HOTTEST 100

This year’s countdown was the biggest yet, with 187,975 voters casting 1,516,765 votes. The winner, as expected, was Macklemore & Ryan Lewis with ‘Thrift Shop’, ahead of Of Monsters & Men (‘Little Talks’), Alt-J (‘Breezeblocks’), Flume (‘Holdin On’) and Mumford & Sons (‘I Will Wait’). Other recent winners have included Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ (2011), Angus & Julia Stone’s ‘Big Jet Plane’ (2010) and Mumford & Sons ‘Little Lion Man’ (2009).
