Tim Rogers adds “secret” Melbourne show – and it’s today
has added a show at the Ding Dong Lounge in Melbourne this evening to his current national tour.
Replacing a cancelled show at the Windsor Hotel, it’ll be a late afternoon matinee. Doors open at 5pm for support act, You Am I guitarist Davey Lane.
Rogers and his “Band of Better Lookin’s” are two-thirds of the way through a national tour for his latest solo album, Rogers Sings Rogerstein. For this album, Rogers says he collaborated with a songwriting partner named Shel Rogerstein, an American he met in Southern France.
Speculation about whether Rogerstein is fictitious – it wouldn’t be the first time a musician invented an alter ego, anyone else remember E from the Eels releasing an album as “MC Honky”, claiming he was a middle-aged radio DJ from California? – was rebutted by Rogers during his In The Firing Line interview with FL.
“No, look, there are truths and there are untruths,” said Rogers. “But he’s a real guy. He has not come out on the road with me because he lives elsewhere, but he’s just doing little video vignettes for me. He’s an interesting guy, and there are parts to him that are really needing to keep a bit of a smokescreen up, but there are photos and videos of us together, and that’s as far as he wants to go with it, and I’ve gotta respect that. It’s a bit smoky for me as well, because if Shel wasn’t a real person, it’s almost like I’d have to invent him, you know?”
