The Kills to Metallica fans: “Fuck off!”
The Kills Alison Mosshart has described opening for Metallica at Stade de France in Paris last night as “character building” after the band endured endless heckling from the 75,000 strong crowd of metal-heads.
Posting on The Kills Facebook following the gig, Mosshart addressed the “fans in the front 50 rows” who gave her and Jamie Hince the finger for their entire 45 minute set: “It was invigorating… like electrocution is invigorating… an experience I will not soon forget. And for those fans in the front 50 rows who gave us the finger the whole set, no hard feelings kids, I’m still laughing. I’m in love with music and all the energies it may inspire. The more madness, the better. There ain’t no joy in an easy ride.”
She also contacted Kills fan-blog blindornot to assure fans that no harm was done, “We finished the set with Fuck The People. It seemed to be appropriate. It gave me the opportunity to tell all the fans in the first hundred rows to fuck off right back. It was fun!”
When The Kills were first announced as main support for Metallica’s largest ever show in France, Mosshart had gushed: “I am biting my fists with excitement. This is one of those childhood dreams come true. To say I’m ‘excited’ hardly enunciates the thrill.”
Despite the reaction from the Paris metal heads who refused to endure three-floor toms and a drum machine while waiting for Lars, James, Kirk and Robert take the stage Mosshart is still at one with her childhood heros: “Metallica were very kind to us. They are nice guys and real music fans and it was a honour to get to do that” she wrote.
Metallica have gone out of their way recently to prove their music credentials, booking the likes of Modest Mouse, Arctic Monkeys, Best Coast, Wooden Shjips and Roky Erickson on their inaugural Orion Festival + More. Wonder how their fans will react to the Shjips 10 minute psychedelic cover of Neil Young’s Vampire Blues?
