The Inaugural Jack Awards Presentation

After a cracking live opener from Dallas Crane, the inaugural Jack Awards were presented at a gala evening held in Sydney last night.  The Jack Awards received over 80,000 votes in total by an on-line voting system.

The winners are:

Best Male Performer: John Butler
Best Female Performer: Sarah McLeod (The Superjesus)
Best Lead Guitarist: Chris Cheney (The Living End)
Best Bass Guitarist: Scott Owen (The Living End)
Best Drummer: Jon Coghill (Powderfinger)
Best Live Newcomer: Jet
Best Live Venue (by state): NSW: The Metro; VIC: The Espy; QLD: The Zoo; SA: UniBar; NT: Nirvana Bar; ACT: The Green Room; WA: Amplifier Bar
Best Live TV Performance: Powderfinger on Rove Live 2003
Best Tour Art: James Bellisini for Big Day Out Festival 2003

Gentleman Jack Award: Ken West and Vivian Lees for the Big Day Out

The night’s performance highlight was the sublime performance by Tex Perkins And The Dark Horses and the long overdue acknowledgement of Ken West and Vivian Lees (Big Day Out) for their services to Australian live music.
