Sydney loses another live venue
The Raval, located above the Macquarie Hotel on Wentworth Avenue in Surry Hills, will close later this month. The intimate venue adorned with armchairs, gothic styled stained glass windows and a red velvet curtained stage has hosted live shows since August 2009.
The venue’s management has explained to FasterLouder that: “With great regret, it is true Raval is closing final date for music is March 25th, the venue is unable to sustain itself with live music in there. The room was designed and conceived with live music in mind but alas due to certain restrictions on the space was never able to reach its full potential. The room will remain open for private functions and industry showcases only and whether regular live music will become part of the room again at this stage is unclear. The Mac downstairs on the other hand has had a record breaking summer and will continue to present quality music week in, week out. Raval would like to thank all the great acts and agents who worked in the room and more than ever the punters who supported it.”
The closure will affect several upcoming shows including a set from Nashville darling Caitlin Rose and a showcase night for Popboomerang Records.
