Soundwave 2014 lineup release coming in “late August”

AJ Maddah is a busy festival promoter. The lineup for his Harvest Festival will be announced tomorrow, the lineup for the Warped tour will be announced in July, and Soundwave 2014 will most likely be announced in “late August.”

That means that we’ll have to wait a few weeks longer this year to find out who’s playing at Soundwave than we did last time around. The first batch of the 2013 Soundwave lineup, featuring most of the festival’s biggest acts, was revealed in the first week of August last year. The 2011 and 2010 Soundwave lineups were also released in August. However the first 2012 announcement, featuring System Of A Down, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Marilyn Manson, was delayed until in October because of the Soundwave Revolution/Counter Revolution tour.

Festival boss AJ Maddah has warned fans that the 2014 lineup won’t be as impressive as this year’s bill, which featured over 70 bands, including headliners Metallica, Blink 182 and Linkin Park. “We’re not going to top it,” the promoter revealed on Twitter shortly after the final Soundwave for 2013. “It was our 10th anniversary, so [it was] a one off big show.”

Kicking off the long drip-feed of announcements, Maddah confirmed back in February that Swedish glam metal band Crashdiet will be part of the 2014 festivities. The announcement came shortly after the band tweeted a photo of an ad for their new album The Savage Playground, which was on display at Soundwave, telling followers, “This is what we call promoting!” Earlier this year, Maddah had revealed plans to feature a Japanese stage hosting acts such as X Japan and Maximum The Hormone however he has since confirmed that X Japan are unavailable for the tour.

Maddah has revealed that the Soundwave 2014 lineup will feature 63 bands and expects the tickets to be roughly $160 plus GST and booking fees. As usual the tour will begin in Brisbane in February before heading south to Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
