Soundwave 2013 officially drops another band from the lineup
Soundwave will be short one New York-based deathcore crew when it arrives in Australia in February next year with festival boss AJ Maddah confirming via Twitter that he has just been notified that Dr Acula will no longer be coming to Australia.
There is no word on a replacement act, but tweets between Maddah and Sparks The Rescue guitarist Toby McAllister reveal that there’s a chance of the American pop-punk band been added as a replacement act.

Dr.Acula were added to the Soundwave lineup last month in the festival’s third announcement, but in late October guitarist (and the band’s only original member) Bill Graffeo has announced that they were breaking up citing “lineup problems, health problems and financial problems”. Graffeo said that after almost eight years Dr.Acula will be put to rest, telling fans that he quit the band “a little less than a month ago”. According to Graffeo’s statement he had some personal problems holding him back from continuing with the band and he could no longer handle the “sketchy” things some people would do within the band itself.
Bassist Oli Miclett also released a statement declaring that it was time for the band members to move on to new stuff. “This band wasn’t going in a direction that pleased everyone in DA,” says Miclett. “Some members kept cancelling tours for no valid reasons, without respect for the fans.” Miclett has announced that he’ll be starting a new band with Dr.Acula vocalist Casey Carrano and ex-Demolisher guitarist Blake Moore.
Dr Acula are the second band to be dropped from Soundwave 2013 following the cancellation of Creed and Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti just hours after he was added to the lineup late last month. The news was announced on Twitter by festival boss AJ Maddah, who initially claimed that “after months of harassment by Tremonti and his people to get on SW he has decided there’s more money elsewhere”. That Tweet was later removed, with a more diplomatic “he has something better to do at [the] time” offered up instead. Writing on Twitter, Tremonti said the invitation “came too late” and they had already booked another tour.
The Soundwave 2012 festival tour went through several lineup changes with Hole, Dragonforce and Black Tide all withdrawing from the bill; These Kids Wear Crowns missing the Brisbane date due to a double-booking; and Switchfoot withdrawing from the Adelaide and Perth shows due to a family emergency. Alesana, A Skylit Drive and Saxon all dropped off the 2011 lineup, while 2010 cancellations included My Chemical Romance, The Devil Wears Prada, Maximum the Hormone and Closure in Moscow. Scars on Broadway were dropped from the 2009 lineup; the 2008 lineup lost Chiodos, Ace Enders, Social Distortion and Coheed and Cambria; and The Format didn’t make the tour in 2007.
