Shihad announced as support for Black Sabbath tour

Celebrating their 25th anniversary in 2013, New Zealand prodigies Shihad have just been announced as support for Black Sabbath’s first Australian tour since 1974.

Joining the legendary lineup including original Black Sabbath members Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi, Shihad will be warming the crowd up for the entire national tour this April hitting Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

In their quarter century together Shihad have risen to an elite status, and incorporated many different elements into their music from metal, post-grunge and modern rock, while enjoying crossover success. Recently the band released their Meanest Hits compilation album, a true attest to their successful career, which dates back from their first release, Churn in 1993 all the way to 2010’s Ignite.

Performing at last year’s Splendour In The Grass, Shihad gave fans what our reviewer labelled “the set of the afternoon by a long shot. Shihad busted out hit after hit after hit to a three-quarters full Super Top. ‘The General Electric’, ‘Pacifier’, ‘Home Again’, ‘My Mind’s Sedate’, ‘Comfort Me’ – you sometimes forget just how many they’ve had over the course of their 22-year career.”

Shihad are enjoying a successful start to the year with the recording of their ninth album. Sabbath have also been in the studio recording a new album – their first in 33 years – with producer Rick Rubin. The shows will be sure to treat fans to some new material as well as a barrage of hits from both bands.
