Schoolboy Q announces 2014 Australian tour

Fresh from dropping his major label debut Oxymoron (and dissing SXSW) Schoolboy Q has announced an Australian tour.

The Californian rapper, known to his mother as Quincy Matthew Hanley, is set to play The Villa in Perth on June 5, the HiFi in Brisbane on June 7, The Enmore in Sydney on June 8 and Melbourne’s Forum Theatre on June 11.

Oxymoron is Q’s third full-length album and the first since 2012’s digital-only release Habits and Contradictions. One quarter of revered hip-hop group Black Hippy – alongside Ab-Soul, Jay Rock and Kendrick Lamar – Q set expectations high for the record when he told an interviewer: “Kendrick [Lamar] left me no choice but to drop a classic”. While FL reviewer Edward Sharp Paul stopped short of labelling the record a classic, he did give it a respectful 8/10: “Q’s at his best, though, when he does his surreal free association thing. ‘Los Awesome’, for instance, is a magnificent mess, a hyped-up Neptunes synth jam with clattering percussion and scattershot, multi-tracked rhymes”.

Joining Schoolboy Q will be label mate Isaiah Rashad who has been turning heads with the release of his debut EP, Cilvia Demo.
