PiL Australian tour

Public Image Ltd, AKA PiL, have announced they will tour Australia for the first time in over 20 years.

After re-forming in 2009 for a tour that was paid for with money frontman John Lydon had earned doing an advertisement for Country Life Butter, PiL returned to the studio last year to record their first material in two decades. Their vinyl-only EP One Drop was released for Record Store Day this year, and was followed by the full-length album This is PiL.

Rumours that they would be part of the 2013 Soundwave lineup persisted even after the first announcement. AJ Maddah has said on Twitter that it “will happen”, although not this time around.

PiL were formed by John Lydon in 1978, looking for a new project after The Sex Pistols broke up. The original lineup had John Lydon at the front and Jah Wobble and Keith Levene on bass and guitar, but Lydon is the only original member to remain. He’s currently backed by Bruce Smith and Lu Edmonds, who were part of the 1980s lineup, and new member Scott Firth.

The 2013 tour will include the band’s first dates in China, as well as a visit to Japan before they arrive in Australia in April. As well as songs from This is PiL apparently we can expect them to be showcasing “live favourites from PiL’s vast history such as ‘Rise’, ‘This Is Not A Love Song’, ‘Death Disco’, ‘Flowers Of Romance’, and ‘Warrior’”.

PiL Australian tour dates:

Tuesday, April 9 – Eatons Hill Hotel, Brisbane

Wednesday, April 10 – Enmore Theatre, Sydney
