Photo diary: Thief vs SXSW
“The vibe in downtown Austin was epic,” says an exhausted PJ Wolf, following a run of six South By Southwest shows including the SexPop showcase and the Aussie BBQ, which was “a great way to finish up our time in Austin”. Now back in Australia, Wolf – better known as Sydney electronic producer Thief – shares his SXSW happy snaps with FL. This weekend he’ll embark on a national tour in support of new single ‘Closer’. Dates below.
First stop LA and a sneaky high five with Stevie outside the Guitar Centre before boarding the plane for Texas.
We got off the Plane in Austin and straight on to the stage at B.D Riley’s for our first SXSW show. It was a beautiful little Irish pub and an awesome crowd to kick things off.
We stayed with our friends Jack and Oli from the awesome Aussie band High Highs. Much inflatable bedding was required.
These guys rocked out before we went on at SexPop at The Firehouse. I can’t remember what they were called but they brought their own light show. Epic.
A few days in and we get to sample some mighty fine Texas BBQ at the famous Iron Works BBQ. The line was long but well worth the wait.
The meat rainbow at the end of said line.
Owl Eyes and her crazy good drummer playing a beautiful set directly after us at the Brew Exchange.
The vibe in downtown Austin was epic. There were some amazing artists playing to huge crowds just in the middle of the street. These guys were tearing it up.
Sound checking for our final SXSW show, the very awesome Aussie BBQ at Maggie Mae’s. Some amazing Aussie bands playing.
This was the scene on 6th street on our last night in Austin. The unwashed masses.
