Muse’s Matt Bellamy features on Kimbra’s new single
The news of the collaboration was quietly revealed in the press release for Kimbra’s co-headline tour with Janelle Monae this morning. The Muse frontman appeared in a list of previously confirmed album collaborators including Daniel Johns, Van Dyke Parks, Thundercat, Bilal, Mark Foster and John Legend.
FL reached out to Kimbra’s publicist today, who confirmed the news. Apparently, Bellamy – who has worked extensively with mixer Rich Costey – visited the studio and wanted to play on the album. He ended up laying down guitars on what’s been earmarked as the first single. Kimbra has also worked with musicians including The Mars Volta, Queens of the Stone Age, Dillinger Escape Plan, Dirty Projectors, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra during the recording sessions.
During an in-depth interview with FL Kimbra spoke about writing her new record and the thread that ties together all her collaborators. “What united all of the people I’ve worked with on this record is the love of a great song, the love of a great melody, the love of a potent lyric, or a hypnotic drum beat. Just basic kind of things and that’s what makes pop music great,” she said. “I’m super excited to get it out. I feel ready so it’s just a matter of tying together all those bits and pieces. When you’re chronic perfectionist you have to really work hard to slowly let go of your baby and let it be what it wants to be.”
