Mumford and Sons announce rural stopover for Gentlemen Of The Road

Dungog is a country town on the Williams River in Hunter Valley, NSW. Its previous claims to fame include a film festival, a rodeo and a “thunderbolt rally”, but that’s all about to change when Mumford & Sons stop by in October.

In conjunction with the teams behind Laneway and Splendour in The Grass, the UK folk outfit will be bringing their Gentlemen Of The Road concept to the historic NSW town of Dungog on Saturday 20th October. The one-day outdoor event is part of a global series of “stopovers”, which debuted in the UK this June. Mumford & Sons describe the series as falling somewhere between “travelling Victorian circus” and “Victorian travelling circus”.

“We want to stop off in towns not usually heavily toured by bands, and celebrate the people, food and music that inhabit them,” the band said. “We’re keen to promote the town’s local businesses, and we’ll be using the local bars and venues for aftershow parties, while working closely with the local people to get everyone involved in making these shows spectacular.”

Headlined by Mumford & Sons (of course), the show will also feature tour buddies Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Sarah Blasko (on the eve of the release of her fourth studio album), Matt Corby, Husky and US singer Willy Mason. Yacht Club DJs round out the bill.

Dungog is three hours by car from Sydney, 1.5 hours from Newcastle. It has a pub, a high school, one stop sign, and Australia’s oldest picture theatre. Camping is available and encouraged. Visit for more details. Tickets on sale next Wednesday (August 15).
