Mudhoney announce Big Day Out sideshows

Mudhoney will be returning to the Big Day Out lineup for the first time in over 20 years when they join Arcade Fire, Blur, Snoop, and good pals Pearl Jam on the 2014 festival lineup.

Now – thanks to a leak on the Sub Pop Records website – we can confirm that in addition to the Big Day Out shows, Mudhoney will play headline dates in Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

The band last visited us for Splendour in the Grass 2012, playing before Lana Del Rey and then heading to Melbourne for a solitary sideshow. Earlier this year they released their ninth album – and first since 2008 – Vanishing Point. “The difference between Mudhoney in 2013 and the Mudhoney of old is that what once seemed highly flammable is now reassuring,” Pitchfork’s review of the album claims. “Mudhoney projects tradition and endurance, not danger; the band’s appeal these days is rooted in not spontaneously combusting, so that it can still exist when most of Mudhoney’s contemporaries are extinct.”

The last time the grunge heroes toured with the BDO was way back in 1993 when they played alongside Sonic Youth, Iggy Pop, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

Mudhoney sideshows:

Thursday, January 16 – King’s Arms, Auckland

Saturday, January 18 – Zoo, Brisbane

Wednesday, January 22 – Corner Hotel, Melbourne

Wednesday, January 29 – Oxford Art Factory, Sydney
