MTV and ARIA partnership announced
MTV Australia and ARIA today announced a new partnership that will see the launch of a new chart show and change the face of the VMAs.
The music heavyweights announced plans for a world premiere redesign of the MTV Video Music Awards concept with the award ceremony expanding outside the VMAs usual music brief to encompass new categories including an award honouring the Best Sports Star and Best Movie Star.
The awards will no longer be held as an arena style event – with Acer Arena being given the brush off for the new location of the Australian Technology Park. The ceremony is slated to be 90mins in duration and and will be a Non Seated event… As Dave Sibley Managing Director of MTV quipped if people can’t be bothered standing for 90minutes then they won’t be coming…
The awards will take place on April 26 and broadcast on Foxtel. Eight performances are scheduled for the event, with acts to be announced soon.
Sibley stated that the brand’s partnership with ARIA was one of the main reasons behind the change for the VMAs, which will now be called the MTV Australia Awards – as given the MTV brand partnership with The ARIAs it made sense to change the VMA’s format in Australia.
This Wednesday, MTV and ARIA will solidify that partnership when the music channel launches the ARIA Charts Show on MTV at 5pm. A music show that will feature interviews, reviews, backstage footage as well as a coutdown of the ARIA charts.
