Metallica cause chaos in Colombia
Mayhem broke out as hundreds of frenzied fans tried to gatecrash a Metallica show in Colombia.
Fearing violence, authorities had closed the streets surrounding Bogota’s Simon Bolivar park and deployed 1,500 police and four tanks to manage the crowds during Metallica’s first Colombian concert in eleven years.
However despite the precautions, at least 130 people were arrested and eight people were hospitalised for injuries including stabbings and a fractured leg as a result of the 45-minutes riot.
Property was also vandalized and destroyed, as ticketless fans rioted trying to break through barriers to catch a glimpse of the metal idols.
One of Bogota’s local police chief’s, Ruben Castillo, has issued a statement defending the heavy police presence and labeling the rioters as “misfits”.
