Melbourne Festival announces 2015 lineup

English folk singer Laura Marling, post-punk icons The Fall, and a tribute to the 40th anniversary of Patti Smith’s classic Horses album featuring Courtney Barnett, Adalita, The Drones’ frontman Gareth Liddiard and Jen Cloher lead the musical lineup for the 2015 Melbourne Festival.

The lineup for the festival in October also includes the previously announced – and sold out – Flight Facilities concert at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl featuring more than 80 musicians including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and guest vocalists Owl Eyes, Emma Louise, and Katie Noonan. Other locals on the lineup include Cut Copy playing a DJ set, George Maple, Kirin J Callinan, The Bombay Royale and The Basics who’ll be launching their new album The Age of Entitlement.

The international lineup features performances by LA-based R&B duo Rhye, electric jazz pioneer John McLaughlin, Icelandic composer Olafur Arnalds, minimal techno acts Kiasmos and The Field, and Clint Mansell – the composer of the scores for all of Darren Aronofsky’s films including Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan – who’ll perform at the Melbourne Recital Centre with a nine-piece band.
