Megadeth demand Soundwave sideshow lineup change

Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted’s new band Newsted has been dropped from the bill of Megadeth ’s Soundwave sideshows.

While there has been no official statement from the band or promoters, a source close to the festival has confirmed that Megadeth had requested that Newsted be dropped from the bill. (Update: Festival promoter AJ Maddah has now officially confirmed the news.)

Whitechapel have been drafted in to replace Newsted at the Megadeth headline dates in Sydney and Melbourne which will also feature support from Danish metal band Volbeat.

Curiously when FL recently interviewed outspoken frontman Dave Mustaine there were no signs of animosity. Asked about the possibility of a collaboration with Newsted on the Soundwave tour Mustaine said, “You know, I don’t know…We had done a track with him at the end of Gigantour which was really cool, but part of the coolness about that was that it was spur of the moment. If we start doing stuff and people expect it, then it’s not really that cool anymore.”
