Megadeth cancel Soundwave tour
Megadeth have canceled their Soundwave tour citing “circumstances beyond its control”.
“Unfortunately Megadeth has to cancel their Australian dates,” frontman Dave Mustaine announced via Facebook. “Megadeth’s decision is unrelated to the fact that Jason Newsted is performing at Soundwave. Jason and I spoke recently and continue to be friends.”
Last week former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted’s new band was officially dropped from the bill of Megadeth’s Soundwave sideshows. According to a statement released by Soundwave, the lineup change was made “at the request of Megadeth”. However Megadeth’s tour manager Jim Carroccio denied the festival’s announcement. “Dave Mustaine is not responsible for booting Newsted off [the Soundwave festival],” Carroccio told ABC News Radio “Dave did not put him on the bill and did not take him off the bill. Dave submitted a list of bands he was comfortable with and the promoter ignored the list. Dave and Jason are friends [and] this has blown up into something silly.”
Promoter AJ Maddah has described the Megadeth saga as one of the weirdest experiences he has ever had and claims that the band had asked him to lie about the cancellation. Megadeth are the third act to pull out of the 2014 Soundwave lineup following Sevendust and Stone Temple Pilots.
I don't like being asked to lie. Nor do I like being extorted. But at the same time I don't want to lose an act off the festival. #dilemma
