Meet the new co-MC of Laneway Festival in Sydney
Spod will now co-emcee the Sydney leg of the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival after organisers bowed to online pressure from the Sydney musician and self-described “computer deadshit”.
Spod was somehow omitted from yesterday’s Laneway line-up, despite reportedly paying for five breakfast meetings and evening cocktails totalling $26693.92 (see invoice below) to secure his place alongside Mac DeMarco, Banks, St Vincent and FKA Twigs. He asked for a full reimbursement of those costs, or a spot on the line-up. “Don’t get me wrong, i’m ready to invest hard earned cash into my brand, but from our handshake deal back then till now, I thought it was a gentleman’s deal, signed & sealed,” he wrote on Facebook.
Now Laneway Festival has responded, describing Spod’s omission as an “oversight” and inviting the singer (?) to co-emcee the Sydney leg of the event with Mac DeMarco’s mum Agnes (click here to learn more about Agnes DeMarco).

Spod has since responded, saying he’ll accept the offer on the proviso that Laneway meets all the demands outlined in his original open letter and also reimburses him for the “incredibly successful online viral marketing campaign”
Laneway kicks off on January 24 in Singapore, before heading to Auckland (January 26), Brisbane (January 31), Sydney (February 1), Adelaide (February 6), Melbourne (February 7) and Fremantle (February 8). Click here for more details.
