Lunar eclipse for Meredith

Meredith Music Festival already has Grinderman (and probably Icehouse ) on the lineup, but the latest announcement from the festival is literally out of this world. Aunty Meredith has managed to arrange a total lunar eclipse to coincide with the climax of Grinderman’s headlining set. Is there anything she can’t do?

We can’t claim to be astronomical experts here at FL so we’ll let Aunty Meredith explain what will happen: “A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes behind the Earth so that the Earth blocks the Sun’s rays from striking the Moon. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle. Hence, a lunar eclipse can only occur the night of a full moon.

The moon will be eclipsed ‘in totality’ for 51 minutes and 8 seconds. This will take place from 14:31:49 UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) which is about half past midnight on the Saturday night of Meredith, or about the time that Grinderman finish their set.”

Things in the Supernatural Amphitheatre are sure to get a little spooky…

The announcement of the eclipse also serves as a reminder that the ticket ballot closes at 10pm this Friday 12th August.
