Listen to The Weeknd’s just-released collab with Daft Punk, ‘Starboy’

Abęl Tesfaye built a reputation for prolific, quality releases with his original mixtape trilogy with the then-mysterious project The Weeknd. After blowing up into the pop stratosphere in a big way last year with his second studio LP Beauty Behind The Madness and its all-conquering cut ‘Can’t Feel My Face’, it appears Abęl isn’t showing any signs of slowing down – today releasing the title track to his upcoming LP.

‘Starboy’ comes with a feature credit from French production mega-stars Daft Punk, evident in the very ‘Harder Better Faster’-esque percussion. It’s a match made in late night, early morning heaven, with The Weeknd displaying trademark intimacy and urgency. It features the possibly coke-addled boast “”I’m a motherfuckin’ Starboy”.

Whispers began to circulate this week that a new Weeknd album announcement was imminent after a full clean–out of the artist’s Instagram account. New album Starboy follows on from last year’s breakthrough Beauty Behind The Madness, which followed the middling commercial album debut Kissland. The Weeknd’s first three mixtapes were packaged together as Trilogy in 2012.

Starboy is set for release Friday November 25. The listing in Apple Music features 18 tracks, the only other name revealed is track 3, ‘False Alarm’. ‘Starboy’ is the album’s opening song.
