Listen to this amazing version of ‘Jolene’

It’s been covered by Olivia Newton-John, The White Stripes, Me First And The Gimme Gimmes, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Laura Marling, and pretty much every reality TV show contestant ever. But the best “cover” of ‘Jolene’ ever goes to Dolly Parton herself.

A YouTube clip of the song slowed down to 33 rpm is currently doing the rounds (that’s 17 percent slower than the original), and it transforms Parton’s effortlessly high vocal into a gothic country dirge sung by the best male singer that never existed. The track has been online for the past year, but went viral over the weekend after being shared by British website B3ta.

‘Jolene’ was originally released in October 1973 as the first single from Parton’s Bob Ferguson-produced 13th studio album Jolene. It’s ranked #219 in Rolling Stone’s list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time”.
