Listen: Red Hot Chili Peppers at Sydney Big Day Out
If you want to relive Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ Big Day Out set – or if you’re just curious to hear what the band sounds like at the moment – you can download their Sydney set via the band’s official live website.
FL’s review of the Sydney BDO reports that the crowd behind them was massive – the biggest since Rage Against The Machine – but that the choice of setlist was not overly “festival friendly”. The set, which is similar to the one performed at a BDO warmup show in New Zealand last week, features four songs from new album I’m With You, plus three from 2002’s By The Way ,1999’s Californication, and the band’s early ‘90s Blood Sugar Sex Magik era. The Chili Peppers also played covers of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Higher Ground’ and ‘What In The World’ from David Bowie’s 1977 Low album for the Sydney crowd, but just one track from their 2006 double album Stadium Arcadium. The set also festures four Chili “jams” – ‘Jam 1’, ‘Jam 2’, ‘Encore Jam’ and ‘Outro Jam’.
The band’s recent New Zealand sets are also available for download on the band’s official livechilipeppers site, but the band’s performance at the Gold Coast Big Day Out which was reportedly beset by sound issues isn’t available.
