Laneway and Big Day Out lineup rumours

It’s foolish to believe everything you read on the net – especially when it comes from an anonymous source – but Miss Info has proven her credentials with a series of accurate tip-offs so we’re always eager to hear what rumours she’s spreading.

Her latest tidbit of news is a tumblr post that claims that “Acts looking likely for Laneway include Twin Shadow, Laura Marling, Wild Beasts, The Horrors & Thurston Moore ” which would certainly be great news if she’s on the money again.

You don’t need to be a mysterious ‘insider’ to think that Twin Shadow is a likely starter for the Laneway lineup – after all he played at the festival’s South By South West party in March and on a stage currated by the Laneway folk at London’s Field Day festival last week. As we reported back in April, electronic acts Jamie Woon and Mount Kimbie were also booked to play at both events and seem like likely candidates for the Laneway 2012 lineup.

For punters playing the Laneway 2012 lineup guessing game the rest of the lineup at Laneway’s SXSW event included Givers, Cloud Nothings, Royal Bangs, Foster The People, Hanni El Khatib and local favourites Cloud Control, The Holidays and The Jezabels. While the Laneway festival stage at Field Day featured sets from The Horrors, James Blake, Matthew Dear, Connan Mockasin, 2.54, The History of Apple Pie and DJ sets from Jon Hopkins and Vampire Weekend’s Chris Baio.

We’d also throw Austra into the mix after the band’s leadsinger Katie Stelmanis told us that the band is “planning a trip to Australia… We’re just kind of confirming it at the moment. But nothing can be properly announced yet. We’re just working out some details. But 2012 for sure, we’ll be there!”

Miss Info also claims that she has the inside word on the Big Day Out lineup, reporting that ” Blink 182 & Prince have been snared to headline” which sets her in line with that other rumour monger extraordinaire – Triple M’s music reporter, Nui Te Koha.

The punters who can bear listening to Eddie McGuire’s breakfast radio show in Melbourne recently heard Nui report that the Big Day Out “promoters have been in Europe in the last couple of weeks. It’s looking like Blink-182 is back on the table [and] QOTSA, who put on a blistering performance at Glastonbury, they’re also on the table as well. Rival promoters are saying that the BDO are sounding out Prince. It seems like a weird fit but apparently talks happened in Europe with Prince for BDO or one of the Summer festivals.”

According to Miss Info’s earlier announcements we can also expect an arena tour from Radiohead in February, a return trip by Splendour headliner Kanye for a headline tour in November and The Strokes, Justice, Two Door Cinema Club and more on a the Future Music lineup early next year.
