Lana Del Rey announces “farewell project”
Is Lana Del Rey about to bow out of music altogether with a short film featuring the poetry of Walt Whitman?
Del Rey has described Tropico as her “farewell project” in a tweet sent out to her 2.5-million followers earlier tonight. The 30-minute film was directed by Anthony Mandler, who collaborated with the singer on last year’s ‘Ride’ film clip, as well as four music producers including Rick Rubin. The movie stars Del Rey and US actor/model Shaun Ross, who you might remember from her clip for ‘Bel Air’.
The tweet was met with confusion from Del Rey’s fans:

As revealed on Twitter, Tropico will premiere in New York and Los Angeles, with Del Rey suggesting it’ll make its way to a “city near you”. “I can’t wait to see you at our premiers for Tropico at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery and in NYC,” she wrote.
