Kendrick Lamar announces debut Australian tour

With his status as hip-hop’s next big thing looking likelier by the day (hello 9.5 Pitchfork review), Kendrick Lamar has announced he’s headed our way for his first ever Australian tour. The hyped lyricist is hitting Melbourne’s Prince Bandroom, Sydney’s Metro Theatre, The Hi-Fi Brisbane and Capitol in Perth.

Shooting straight outta Compton, Lamar was signed to Dre’s Aftermath label and Interscope after the success of his 2010 mixtape Overly Dedicated and independent album Section 80. In addition to Dre, Lamar has already worked with a dream list of rappers including Game, Drake, Rick Ross, Pharrell Williams, Talib Kweli, Busta Rhymes, E-40, Warren G, and Lil Wayne. He’s also a member of the Black Hippy crew, along with fellow West Coast rappers and label mates Jay Rock, Schoolboy Q and Ab-Soul. Coming over for a whirlwind mid-December trip, Lamar’s tackling Australia to celebrate the release of his first major label album good kid, m.A.A.d city which gets its official Australian release this Friday, October 26.

Fans of good kid, m.A.A.d city might want to jump on the mix tape of samples used on the album put together by Babylon Cartel’s Gianni Lee and Mike Blud, which includes songs by Beach House, Twin Sister, Ohio Players, Janet Jackson, and Kanye West.
