Josh Pyke Joins Ivy League & Heads Out On Tour

A cheap ‘side project’ demo has gained Sydney based singer/songwriter, Josh Pyke (aka Night Hour), recording and publishing deals with Ivy League Records where he will be joining the likes of Youth Group, 78 Saab, Neon & The City Lights. Josh has been active in the live music scene for many years as the guitarist/vocalist for successful local acts, Phloem & An Empty Flight, which has seen him support the likes of Foo Fighters and Blink 182 and release an acclaimed EP Art Vs Commerce.

The ‘side project’ demo came about whilst recording the follow up to Art Vs Commerce. Josh was spending his spare time writing tracks influenced by the music he grew up on such as The Doobie Brothers and Van Morrison and combining these with newer influences such as Elliott Smith, Augie March, and Sparkle Horse. Frustrated with having all these tracks floating around in his head, and no vehicle by which to release them, he headed into the studio, and with $800 and 30 hours to spare, laid down 11 tracks, performing all parts himself.

With the recording, Josh has achieved a management contract with Step2 Artist Management, high rotation on Triple J, two Australia Council grants, a track featured on a major label compilation, studio time with Matt Lovell & Chris Joannou and now finally his recording and publishing deals with Ivy League.

The label has been quick off the mark showing their commitment to Pyke, and has sent him over to their New York offices to do some showcasing and spend some time in the studio with producer Malcolm Burn (Emmy Lou Harris, Iggy Pop, Bob Dylan & Midnight Oil). Upon his return he will be venturing out around the country for some solo acoustic shows, dates of which are as follows:
