Josh Homme: QOTSA may play Grammys “if they got their shit together”
His touring buddy Trent Reznor may feel differently, but Josh Homme says he’s over the Grammys finale debacle – he may even play the awards again “if they got their shit together”.
Homme was responding to a question from an FL reader who wanted to know whether the Queens Of The Stone Age frontman was over last month’s Grammys telecast, which cut short the band’s performance of ‘My God Is The Sun’. QOTSA was performing the …Like Clockwork single as part of a medley with Nine Inch Nails, Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham and Dave Grohl when they were suddenly chopped off by a commercial.
While Reznor continues to rage about the incident – he described it as “”an utter waste of time””:http://www.fasterlouder.com.au/news/38504/Trent-Reznor-says-Grammys-were-an-utter-waste-of-time in a recent New Zealand radio interview – Homme says he’s moved on. “I’d play anywhere. I don’t care about the drama,” he says in the video interview below. “I don’t think it’s necessary to worry or sweat the rest of this stuff. Just go and play your music … I don’t like to be disrespected, but nobody likes that.”
Homme hasn’t opened up about the incident, except for a recent US show, during which he told the crowd, “Fuck Imagine Dragons and fuck the Grammys”. But he says he was misunderstood and was just reacting to some audience banter. “I was really drunk,” he jokes. Homme even opened the door to a future Grammys performance. “If they got their shit together, maybe,” he says. “I’m in a band, I go play music wherever I’m supposed to go play. You can’t sweat this other stuff. It’s not that big of a deal.”
Homme also answered reader questions about his favourite ice cream flavour, his plans for another “Desert Sessions” album and his current reading list. In the Q&A below you’ll also discover why he loves the “raw and rugged” Tasmania, which member of his band is most like a penguin, and why he loves stories about mountaineering tragedies.
