Jake Shears guests on new Queens of the Stone Age album

The new Queens of The Stone Age record is shaping up to have more collaborations than Ke$ha’s latest effort, with Antiquiet confirming that Scissor Sisters’ frontman Jake Shears has added some vocal flair to the album.

In a series of tweets earlier this week, Shears revealed that he has been hanging around “some fierce Queens”, experimenting with satanic cabaret and watching porn.

While the collaboration does seem like an odd-fit Shears is a longtime friend of the band, with Josh Homme even recording a very memorable infomercial to spruik the Scissor Sisters Magic Hour album back in May. The singer joins a swag of big names who will feature on the band’s highly anticipated follow up to 2007’s Era Vulgaris, including Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor and estranged former-Queens member Nick Oliveri.

QOTSA’s as-yet-untitled new album – their sixth – is expected to be out prior to their appearance at the UK’s Download Festival next June. In an interview with FL in January last year, guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen said the album was inspired by the blues. “It’s really early in the process and it’s not too defined what it is, but we’re all feeling really great about it and there’s no shortage of ideas. We’re trying to filter the best of the best.”

While little more is known about the musical direction of the record the band has, today, released a behind the scenes “making of” video in which hosts Matt Berry and Steve Agee interview each member of QOTSA.
