Hoodoo Gurus Dig it Up! festival returns for 2013

The Dig it Up! festival will return in April with the Hoodoo Gurus playing their second record Mars Needs Guitars in full.

The event – dubbed a “multi-band/multi venue invitational” by the band – was launched last year with the Gurus playing their debut Stoneage Romeos as headline set to cap of a a lineup that also featured sets from garage rock legends The Sonics, the reformed Redd Kross, Japanese girl group The 5.6.7.8’s, and local favourites including Royal Headache and Died Pretty.

The acts joining Hoodoo Gurus on the 2013 lineup haven’t been announced yet, but chief Guru Dave Faulkner boasts that the bill will “live up to everyone’s high expectations”. Faulkner says that “last year’s Dig It Up! was such an incredible event that our only concern was what could we possibly do to match it? We had no intention of doing anything unless we could maintain the same standard, with that standard being rock ‘n’ roll perfection … I confidently predict Dig It Up! 2013 will be the gig of the year.”

Reviewing the event in Sydney last year FL reported that the Hoodoo Gurus “left the stage grinning in the knowledge they’d been able to indulge in their own musical passions, play with some of their heroes and and give the crowd a thoroughly rewarding day of rock’n’roll both old and new.”
