Homebake confirms 2013 date
The Homebake promoters have confirmed that the festival will return in 2013 for a “massive 18th Birthday” on Saturday, December 7. The first Homebake was held in Byron Bay way back in January 1996 so the festival won’t quite be 18 in December this year, but close enough is good enough, eh?
The first Homebake lineup featured local festival favourites Spiderbait, Silverchair, Grinspoon and You Am I but last year’s event – billed as “Homebake: The Global Edition” – was controversially headlined by Blondie. While the legendary New York band headed-up the festival, the rest of the bill featured a traditional lineup of local fare, which included Tame Impala, Pond, Kimbra, Hilltop Hoods, The Bamboos, Birds Of Tokyo and Something For Kate.
In 2008 the festival sold all 20,000 tickets in just 10 minutes as fans scrabbled to see the lineup featuring Crowded House, Cut Copy, You Am I and Eddy Current Suppression Ring. However by 2010 Homebake decided to take a break, returning in 2011 with the “Classic Edition” featuring Grinderman, The Triffids, The Church, Icehouse and Gotye.
The statement from the festival announcing the 2013 date was posted on Facebook with a link to TISM’s full set at the 1998 festival, and for that reason alone it’s probably worth beginning a fairly baseless rumour that the band will reform to play at the festival. If it happens, you heard it here first.
