Gwen Stefani gets emotional about her split with Gavin Rossdale on new song ‘Used To Love You’

While she has been busy collaborating with Snoop Dogg and Calvin Harris, appearing on the US series of The Voice and celebrating the 20th anniversary of No Doubt’s Tragic Kingdom, it’s been almost a decade since Gwen Stefani dropped a solo record. But the wait seems to be over for fans with the singer debuting her new single ‘Used to Love You’ at a concert in New York last night.

‘Used To Love You’ is the first music Stefani has released since splitting with her husband, Bush frontman Gave Rossdale, in August – and it’s hard to ignore the seemingly personal nature of the song’s lyrics. “Never thought this would happen/I let it sink in, you’re gone/I thought I was the best thing that ever happened to you/I guess nobody taught you how to love,” Stefani sings in front of a video which shows close ups of her face wracked with pained expressions. Rossdale and Stefani met while on tour together in 1995 and married in 2002. They have three children together Zuma, Kingston and Apollo.
