Glen Hansard and The Frames sideshows

Oscar-winning Frames front man, star of Once, and one half of the Swell Season duo, Glen Hansard is returning to Australia for Bluesfest and a few headline shows in March.

Hansard will be touring his debut solo album Rhythm and Repose, his first album of new material since The Swell Season’s 2009 release Strict Joy. According to FL’s review Rhythm and Repose is “personal, intimate, very pretty and has plenty for fans and casual listeners alike”. In the last year Hansard has toured as the support act for Eddie Vedder’s solo shows and collaborated with the late Levon Helm from The Band on an as yet unreleased track.

His ‘backing band’ for the Australian tour will be The Frames, the band Hansard has led since 1990. The Frames have released six albums, the most recent being 2006’s The Cost before Hansard committed himself to focusing on the The Swell Season project. Irish singer Lisa Hannigan who was in Australia last year as one of performers on the “Way to Blue: The Songs of Nick Drake” tribute concert, will be the support act on the tour. Her solo debut, Sea Sew was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2008 and her followup Passenger was released last year.
