Girls “f#cked” by Girls

Girls lead singer Christopher Owens has given headline writers looking for a cheap joke an amazing gift by launching an attack on the new HBO series Girls.

In a series of tweets Owens complained that “It’s a bit sucky to be informed by a giant company like HBO that you don’t matter enough culturally to not have your name taken away or used. Do you think that TV show even thought twice before using our bands name for their show? I’ll bet they were just like “fuck it, fuck them” I’ve got an idea, let’s start a band and call it The Simpsons.”

Owens acknowledged that “Girls is obviously a word that cannot be owned by anyone, But a choice was made and anyone that really respected us wouldn’t have used it” so it’s unlikely that we’ll see him launching legal action against the show like the still unresolved dispute between the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the TV show Californication.

There has been no reaction (so far) from the writers of song’s sharing the show’s title – Beastie Boys, Beenie Man, The Prodigy, Sugababes, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Calvin Harris, Death in Vegas, Diana Ross, Marina and The Dimonds, The Sugarhill Gang etc.
