Only four artists are in the entire Apple Music top 20 right now – that’s insane

Spare a thought for every artist on the planet who has released music in the past fortnight and is not Drake or Ed Sheeran.

Drake’s More Life and Sheeran’s ÷ (yes, that’s the title) are dominating the charts and breaking records at an unprecedented rate. At the time of writing, there are only four artists in the Apple Music top 20 and nine on the Spotify top 20. That’s insane.

Take a look:

On the ARIA charts, six of the top 20 tracks are by Ed Sheeran. He also still dominates most Billboard charts, with Drake projected for a killer debut on Friday. The tag-team takeover is expected to continue across ARIA, Billboard, iTunes and other global charts this Friday once they’re updated to reflect More Life.

Ed Sheeran is the first ever artist to have two singles simultaneously debut in the Billboard top 10. In the UK, he’s pushed past a million sales in just 16 days, making him the fastest selling solo male artist of all time. He currently holds the record for the most ever singles to debut on the Billboard charts at one time, with 16. The previous record was held by, you guessed it, Drake, with Views. He’s expected to overtake Sheeran again when More Life hits the charts.

Meanwhile, Drake broke all possible streaming records this week, with 89.9 million streams on Apple Music and 61.3 million on Spotify in its first 24 hours. He’s also the first artist to ever push past 10 billion streams on Spotify.

In his own words, what a time to be alive.
