Festival Analysis: Laneway 2013
We go behind today’s St Jerome’s Laneway announcement to present a definitive guide to everything you need (and don’t really need) to know about the 2013 bill.
The 2013 Laneway lineup is one for BFFs – and we’re not just talking about the bromantic love-in that is Japandroids. Here are some recent loved-up collabs:
Yeasayer and Bat for Lashes
Yeasayer’s Chris Keating and Ira Wolf Tuton contributed drum programming and bass to several songs on Bat For Lashes’ 2009 album Two Suns. And not just album tracks, the three songs with Yeasayer cameos were the album’s three singles Sleep Alone, Daniel, and Pearl’s Dream.
Twerps and Real Estate
Melbourne’s Twerps and New Jersey’s Real Estate share a love for jangly Flying Nun pop, and on their joint US tour earlier this year even covered The Clean’s classic ‘Anything Could Happen’ on stage together at Newport Music Hall in Columbus, Ohio.
Nite Jewel + Julia Holter
Ramona Gonzalez (aka Nite Jewel) and Julia Holter have teamed up to create Nite Jewelia. Geddit?
Nicolas Jaar and Chet Faker, and Shlohmo
Nicolas Jaar has teamed up with two fellow Laneway dudes remixing both Chet Faker’s Terms And Conditions and Shlohmo’s Rained The Whole Time. We’re looking forward to his remix of The Men.
Pitchfork gives this lineup a 7.7
If it’s good enough for Pitchfork, it’s good enough for us, right? We’ve tabled the album scores from each band’s most recent records to come up with a mean for the festival – and it’s just short of a high distinction at 7.7. (Yeasayer let the team down with a paltry 5.4.)
