Wons Phreely (chatterbox)
2007 is proving to be quite the year for young Wons Phreely. He’s supported the likes of M Ward, Aqualung and Bob Evans and just wrapped up tours with the two Bens – Kweller and Lee. His debut EP Rules of Nature has been getting gongs from all the street press and his latest single Every Thing Fits taken from his forthcoming debut Long Player The World, You’re Young, Whatever is already heating up the airwaves – having made it onto rotation on Triple J. So Wons has dropped by to give us the goss on his new charmed singer songwriter life…
Liz Martin (vitamin)
This week’s emerging artist is Sydney singer songwriter Liz Martin- I feel a bit slack calling Liz an emerging artist – but I really wanna make sure people get out and buy her new EP, Night Music. Liz has been playing around the traps for some time now supporting the likes of Sigur Ros and the Black Keys but she’s probably best known for her work with Paul Mac. If you happen to be in Newtown next week head over to the Vanguard on Nov 25 for Liz’s Ep launch.
Tunng’s third album Good Arrows is in stores now – and if you liked their earlier efforts you’re gonna love the newbie – it’s full of swirling pop melodies, gorgeous harmonies, quirky lyrics and just a touch of feelgood folkiness. Wrap your ears around the single, _Bricks_…
By the Fireside (inertia)
UK alt pop rockers By the Fireside have drawn inspiration from a tragic circus fire back in the 1940s for their new release, The Great Hartford Fire. The fire, which took place at a Ringaling Brothers Circus has long been an inspiration for the outfit’s singer songwriter Daniel Lea – so much so that he’s woven the tale into the band’s cd. The firstsingle off the album delivers Daniel’s take on the arsonist’s side of the story…
Kat Frankie (vitamin)
Sydney born and bred Kat Frankie has been quite the international traveller of late – in fact she pretty much calls Berlin home these days – which is where she recorded her debut album Pocket Knife. The CD is gorgeous blend of raw soulful pop and we’ve got our tiny hands on the first single, The Tops.
Sparkadia (ivy league)
Since signing to Ivy League, Sparkadia have been quite the busy beavers – clocking up the miles in the UK and still finding time to sit down and put together a new album. Said CD entitled Postcards will hit stores mid 08 – however we’ve got our mitts on the first track – Animals – and it’s a corker.
