Falls Festival – Funny Buggers

The Falls Festival’s comedy sessions are back in full force. At this year’s Falls Fest punters at Lorne and Marion Bay can laugh it up at the antics of Charlie Pickering, Akmal Saleh and the Bedroom Philospher.

Lorne also plays host to Eddie Perfect and Jon Bennett, whilst Marion Bay is pleased to welcome local funny men Andy Muirhead and Tim Logan.

The line-up for Falls Festival Funny Buggers represents some of the best the Australian Comedy scene has to offer. Akmal Saleh has played to audiences at the Adelaide Fringe, Melbourne Comedy and Edinburgh Festivals, toured with Jimeoin, Ben Elton, Steady Eddy, The Amazing Jonathon and Steven Wright.

Charlie Pickering is one of the most exciting new names in Australian comedy. Starring at a major festival in pretty much every Australian state over the last year, he received a nomination for the Barry Award for Most Outstanding Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2006 and Perrier Best Newcomer Nomination in Edinburgh 2005.

With a sound described as Beck vs Rufus Wainwright vs Jarvis Coker, The Bedroom Philosopher (aka Justin Heazlewood) owns an unmistakable cult genre clash of accomplished musician and clever lyricist comedian. .

Performer/musician/comedian/writer – Eddie Perfect is one of those multitalented folk that seems to be able to turn his hand to a number of skills. His TV credits include Kath and Kim, Stingers, Blue Heelers, MDA  and ABC TV’s Stand Up. Perfect has toured Australia extensively, as well as successful seasons in Edinburgh and London. “Angry Eddie”, his first solo show, received several awards including a Green Room Award (Best original music), a Barry Award for Best Newcomer (Melbourne Comedy Festival, 2004) and The Golden Gibbo Award (Melbourne Comedy Festival 2004).

Described as the ‘Golden Boy of Tasmanian comedy’, Andy Muirhead was a Raw Comedy National Finalist in 2004, was part of the Comedy Zone, Melbourne Comedy Festival 2005 and has performed in four Hobart Comedy Festivals. Muirhead has since gone on to perform his own solo show in this year’s International Melbourne Comedy Festival. Now the host of ABC’s The Collectors, Andy has also recently appeared on The Comedy Channel.

While Tasmania’s 2005 JJJ RAW National Finalist, Tim Logan represented the state in front of 1500 people at the Melbourne Town Hall and has gone on to perform regular feature nights at both the Republic Bar & CafíƒÂ© in North Hobart and The New Sydney Hotel.

With these great comedians on the bill – it sounds like Falls Festival will be providing plenty of laughs for punters alongside the already fantastic live music line-up.
