Exclusive: Papa Vs Pretty announce new album, shows

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Sydney’s Papa Vs Pretty, but that doesn’t mean they’ve been sitting idly by. “We wrote over 80 songs and the culling process was intense!” frontman Thomas Rawle says of the band’s forthcoming new album, White Deer Park.

Due for release in early 2014, White Deer Park was produced by Dave Trumfio (Wilco, My Morning Jacket, Grandaddy), recorded at 301 in Sydney and Forgotten Valley Studios and mixed at Kingsize Sound Labs in Los Angeles. It’s the follow-up to their 2011 ARIA Award-nominated debut United In Isolation, which we described as “packed full of energy and young enthusiasm”.

The album’s first single, ‘My Life Is Yours’, isn’t out until September 13, but you can hear a snippet of its soaring strings (complete with funny voiceover) below. “I started writing ‘My Life Is Yours’ before I first went to LA to write and finished when I got back,” says Rawle. “LA was a total life changing experience and it set the tone for what followed.”

‘My Life Is Yours’ will be launched at Papa Vs Pretty’s first shows in a year in Sydney and Melbourne in September. The band have now expanded to a four-piece with the addition of Luke Liang on guitar and keyboards.

Papa Vs Pretty ‘My Life Is Yours’ single launches:
