Art Alexakis will finally bring Everclear back to tour Australia in October.
It has been 14 long years since Everclear were last seen in Australia, but it’s hardly surprising that it has taken so long to book in a return tour. The band referred to that Australian visit in 1998, on the back of the Sparkle and Fade and So Much for the Afterglow albums, as the ‘disastour’ because the band nearly broke up on stage in Wollongong, had boots and firecrackers thrown at them and had some of the bands gear stolen.
Alexakis is the only remaining member from the band that tour however since that tour the varied lineups of Everclear have released several more albums. Everclear releases since 1998 include two concept albums about Alexakis’ divorce; two ‘best-of’ collections Ten Years Gone: The Best of Everclear 1994-2004 and 2006’s The Best of Everclear; a covers set The Vegas Years featuring versions of Cheap Trick, Thin Lizzy and Hall & Oates songs; and two collections of Everclear reinterpretations – In a Different Light and Return to Santa Monica. Later this year the band plans to release the first album of new material since 2006’s Welcome to the Drama Club.
In June they’ll be headlining the ‘90s retromania of the Summerland tour alongside Sugar Ray, Lit, Marcy Playground and Gin Blossoms in the States, but for the Australian shows the support comes from Sydney’s Strangers (on the East Coast anyway – the Perth support will be announced soon)
