Elton John tour to celebrate the 40th anniversary of ‘Rocket Man’
Sir Elton John will be returning to Australia in November to celebrate the landmark 40 year anniversary of Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going To Be A Long Long Time).
The Rocket Man and Pnau fanboy perform as part of the opening week celebrations at the new Perth Arena before heading to Canberra than then up to Sydney for yet another show at the Sydney Entertainment Centre – his 42nd show at the venue!
Melbourne is conspicuously absent from the tour schedule but as the announcement notes that the tour is a “very special run of shows, some in parts of Australia he’s never been” so perhaps we’ll see Elton following the lead of Leonard Cohen to book a November show at Hanging Rock or maybe he could be part of the “”gobsmacking lineup at One Great Night On Earth (if they’ve rescheduled the date by a few weeks).
Bluesfest director Peter Noble and promoter Michael Chugg had been trying to schedule an Elton John concert on the Bluesfest site at Tyagarah near Byron Bay in November but the local council refused to grant them a permit leading Noble to complain in May that “the council said they supported us… They led us down the garden path and then stabbed us in the back. It’s not fair.”
