Elliott Smith doco ‘Heaven Adores You’ gets one-off screening in Aus

The acclaimed Elliott Smith documentary Heaven Adores You is screening for one night only in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and Canberra this week. See the full times and dates below.

Directed by Nickolas Rossi and produced by Smith’s highschool friend Kevin Moyer Heaven Adores is billed as “an intimate, meditative inquiry into the life and music of Elliott Smith”. It is the first project about the songwriter that has had permission to use Smith’s music and features interviews with his family – including his sister Ashley – and former collaborators Jon Brion, Larry Crane, Neil Gust, Tony Lash and more.

Having premiered at the San Francisco International Film Festival in 2014 the film has gone on to be screened at over 30 festivals around the world, including the Melbourne International Film Festival.

Rossi describes the film as “a visual, melodic love letter of sorts to a musical genius, in the environments that he knew best: Portland, New York, and Los Angeles.” He elaborates, “By having Elliott guide us himself, via recorded conversations and interviews, I am hopeful that he can tell his own story once and for all, surrounded by the people who loved him dearly.”
