Dave Grohl hints at next Foos album, “next year is going to be a really big year”
Last month FL’s Doug Wallen spoke to Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shifflett, who mentioned that the band were planning to begin work on their next album, “Soon. We haven’t officially started, but we’re getting underway soon.” In a recent interview with British radio station XFM Dave Grohl also talked about the new Foos album, saying that it was “a little ways off – it’s not ready to happen right now but I think next year is going to be a really big year for the Foo Fighters without question.”
Grohl also mentioned that they were planning to “make this album in a way that no-one’s ever done before”, which lines up with what he said at South By Southwest in March: “It won’t be a conventional record,” he said, as well as calling it whatever they had planned for making this album a “crazy idea”.
Shiflett touched on the same topic in his interview with FL, but chose his words carefully. “I can’t go into too much detail,” he said, “because they probably don’t want me to, but it’s definitely going to be … I’m excited about it. Dave’s got a bunch of new songs and the way that we’re gonna make the new record – like, the approach for it – is going to be pretty fucking fun. And different.”
The last album the Foo Fighters released was Wasting Light back in 2011. As we put it in our Foo Fighers Album Audit, “They could do a lot worse than ending it all here.” But the hiatus the band went on after Wasting Light while Grohl completed work on his documentary Sound City and the record to go with it seems to be well and truly over now.
